Epidemiology and strategies for chemical management of powdery mildew in mango PAB

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate phytosanitary strategies for the chemical control of powdery mildew (Oidium mangiferae) in mango, based on the alternation of active ingredients with different modes and sites of action, and to determine the environmental and epidemiological conditions that favor the development of the disease. The experiment was conducted in Guerrero, México, in commercial orchards, within a program for the development of fungicide spraying strategies. Epidemic curves were used on temporal analyses of the disease for: incidence; area under disease progression curve (AUDPC); severity; and conidial seasonality and its relationships with meteorological parameters. Mating type, mefenoxam sensitivity, and pathotype diversity in Phytophthora infestans isolates from tomato in Brazil PAB

The objective of this work was to characterize 79 Phytophthora infestans isolates collected in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) fields, as to mating type, mefenoxam sensitivity, and pathotype composition. The isolates were sampled in 2006 and 2007 in seven Brazilian states as well as in the Distrito Federal. They were characterised as to mating type (n=79), sensitivity to fungicide mefenoxam (n=79), and virulence to three major resistance genes Ph-1, Ph-2, and Ph-3/Ph-4 (n=62). Mechanisms and significance of fungicide resistance BJM

In this review article, we show that occurrence of fungicide resistance is one of the most important issues in modern agriculture. Fungicide resistance may be due to mutations of genes encoding fungicide targets (qualitative fungicide resistance) or to different mechanisms that are induced by sub-lethal fungicide stress. These mechanisms result in different and varying levels of resistance (quantitative fungicide resistance). We discuss whether or not extensive use of fungicides in agricultural environments is related to the occurrence of fungicide resistance in clinical environments. Furthermore, we provide recommendations of how development of fungicide resistant pathogen populations may be prevented or delayed.

O uso de fungicidas sintéticos é uma das estratégias de manejo de doenças mais utilizadas na agricultura, porém, busca-se manejos que sejam mais sustentáveis. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar o potencial de óleos essenciais de Cedrela fissilis e Mentha spicata no controle, in vitro, do crescimento micelial do patógeno Corynespora cassiicola. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no Laboratório de Fitossanidade da Universidade Estadual do Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), Unidade Universitária de Cassilândia-MS. Abstract Gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea Pers. is one of the most important diseases of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.), and fungicide resistance is a concern. The objective of this research was to evaluate the sensitivity of B. cinerea isolates to the fungicides iprodione and thiophanate-methyl in two strawberry-producing areas in Mexico. Sixty-two B. cinerea isolates collected from strawberry fruits from Maravatio Valley (MV) and Zamora-Jacona Valley (ZJ) in Michoacan, Mexico, were used to determine the sensitivity distribution based on mycelium growth (MG) and conidial germination (CG). Fungicides are important tool for managing diseases in many crops. For example, managing brown spot of rice relies on the application of fungicides. The heavy use of fungicides has triggered to the development of isolates of Bipolaris oryzae (Helminthosporium oryzae) resistant to fungicides. This survey, the farmers were randomly interviewed about fungicide application, showed that most of farmers (76%) used triazole fungicide. 18, 16, 8 and 8 % used dithiocarbamat, triazolobenzo strobirulin and benzimidazole respectively. In vitro fungicide sensitivity assays using poison media technique expressed propiconazole and haxaconazole at concentration 10 ppm inhibit completely mycelium growth.
